The Statue of Liberty is a magnificent monument that symbolizes the friendship between the United States and France, as well as the ideals of freedom and democracy. It was a gift from the people of France to commemorate the centennial of American independence in 1876. The statue was designed by French sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was built by Gustave Eiffel, who later created the Eiffel Tower. The statue was shipped in pieces across the Atlantic Ocean and assembled on a pedestal on Liberty Island in New York Harbor.

The statue depicts a woman holding a torch in her right hand and a tablet in her left hand. The torch represents enlightenment and the tablet bears the date of July 4, 1776, the day of the Declaration of Independence. The woman is dressed in a robe and wears a crown with seven spikes, symbolizing the seven continents and seas. The statue stands 305 feet (93 meters) tall from the base of the pedestal to the tip of the torch. It is made of copper and has a green patina due to oxidation.

The statue is not only a stunning sight, but also a meaningful attraction for millions of visitors every year. It welcomes immigrants and travelers who arrive by sea, as it did for generations of newcomers in the past. It inspires people with its message of liberty and hope, as expressed in the famous poem by Emma Lazarus that is engraved on a plaque at the pedestal’s entrance. The poem invites the world to send its “huddled masses yearning to breathe free” to America, where they will find a “golden door” of opportunity. The statue is also a national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering tours, exhibits, and activities for all ages.

Niagara Falls State Park, recognized as the oldest state park in the United States, contains the American Falls, the Bridal Veil Falls, and a portion of the Horseshoe Falls (also known as the Canadian Falls). The park covers an area of 400 acres and is situated on the Niagara River, which forms the border between the United States and Canada.

The park offers a variety of things to see and do for visitors, such as scenic views, hiking trails, picnic areas, and fishing spots. The park also features thrilling attractions, such as the Maid of the Mist, a boat ride that takes you to the base of the falls; the Cave of the Winds, a walkway that leads you to the edge of the Bridal Veil Falls; the Observation Tower, a 230-foot structure that offers panoramic views of the falls; and the Niagara Legends of Adventure Theatre, a film that tells the history and stories of Niagara Falls.

Must See Eternal Flame Falls
If you are looking for a unique and magical destination for your next road trip, you might want to check out the Eternal Flame Falls in Western New York. This is a small waterfall that hides a natural gas-fueled flame in a grotto behind the cascading water. The falls are located in the Shale Creek Preserve, a section of Chestnut Ridge Park, about 25 miles south of Buffalo. You can hike to the falls on a 1.5-mile round-trip trail that follows the creek and passes through a forest of hemlock, maple, and beech trees.

The Eternal Flame Falls are not only a beautiful sight, but also a scientific curiosity. The gas that feeds the flame comes from cracks in the shale rock below the surface, which is unusual for such a young and shallow shale formation. The gas has a high concentration of ethane and propane, which makes it burn brighter and longer than typical natural gas seeps. Geologists have studied the falls to understand how the gas is produced and how it affects the greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere. The falls are also a cultural and historical attraction, as they are believed to have been lit by Native Americans thousands of years ago.
